On Saturday, February 25th VSA Baseball hosted their first Coaches Clinic. VSA was fortunate enough to have some high level and highly successful coaches speak at the clinic. Over 20 coaches came to learn from some of the area’s best.
Andy Niese (Eau Claire Regis Head Coach and 2022 State Champions) led the clinic off with some Go to Drills for all areas. Andy focused on some different kinds of drills that has had great feedback from players throughout his program. CJ Koehler (Director of Baseball at VSA and UWEC Infield Coach) then broke down infield play and proper throwing and fielding routines to make all infielders more versatile.
Craig Walter (Altoona HS Head Coach and former UWEC Head Coach) then discussed pitching and how to effectively train athletes. Jordan Gefroh (UWEC Catching coach) then gave phenomenal catching demonstrations breaking down various aspects of catching. CJ Koehler followed this up by discussing youth practice planning and the importance of being prepared for each and every practice.
We were then fortunate enough to have current UWEC Head Coach Charles Bolden speak on outfield play as he gave lots of little tips and tricks to help all outfielders. The day finished with Drew Steinmetz (Lead Skills Coach at VSA and UWEC Assistant Coach) discussing hitting and breaking down every part of hitting. Throughout these presentations creating fun and engaging competitions was a focus throughout. Whether it was pitching, catching, infield, or hitting all presenters discussed the importance of challenging athletes through creative competitions.
While the presenters were engaging and shared lots of great information, the coaches who came to learn asked great questions throughout. The conversations between sessions and after the presenters is where even more valuable information was shared.
